The Redwood City Improvement Association will search for a new management firm after Chamber San Mateo County notified the organization it will not renew its contract.
The association, which said it works to deliver safety, economic and cultural services to Downtown Redwood City, created a task force to handle the selection process for a new management firm, according to an Oct. 30 RCIA news release. A request for proposals is anticipated to be put out by mid-November, and the process is expected to be completed by March 1, 2027.
“While we are transitioning out of the day-to-day management role, our commitment to the downtown community remains strong and unwavering,” said Amy Buckmaster, president and CEO of Chamber San Mateo County in a prepared statement. “Chamber San Mateo County will always be a champion for RCIA and Downtown Redwood City.”
Buckmaster said the chamber values its “longstanding partnership” with RCIA and looks forward to continuing to work together in the coming years. The transition from a management role, she said, allows both of its organizations to focus their resources and priorities on best serving the community.
The improvement association has supported Downtown Redwood City with cleaning, beautification, parking management and improvements to public rights-of-way. RCIA said that the organization donated $60,000 to the Redwood City Police Department to purchase another drone to respond faster and more efficiently to emergencies like reports of missing persons, thefts and homicides, according to an Oct. 1 news release.
Paul Gadow, the president of the RCIA Board of Directors, said he values the county chamber for its partnership for more than a decade.
“Our priority is to ensure a seamless transition, while maintaining, and building upon, the quality of services provided to our downtown partners,” Gadow said.
