San Mateo native Tom Brady, who is best known for winning seven Super Bowls and becoming one of the most decorated quarterbacks in football history, is about to take on a more visible presence in Palo Alto’s Town & Country Village.
CardVault by Tom Brady, a retailer that sells trading cards and sports memorabilia, is preparing to open on Saturday its latest Bay Area store at the shopping center on the corner of El Camino Real and Embarcadero Road. Located next to the chocolate store SWISS55, the business is scheduled to open on Aug. 15, according to the company’s announcement. It will feature single cards, sealed boxes, card packs and collectibles, as well as on-site services to help collectors authenticate and preserve memorabilia, according to the announcement.
On Wednesday, a crew of workers was putting the finishing touches on the interior of the store, which now features a large picture of Brady on the exterior, in preparation for the weekend opening.
“Can I get an early access to the vault?” said a woman who was walking by the shop.
The Palo Alto store would be the 17th location for CardVault, a card company that was founded in 2020. It has two other California locations, one in Sacramento and another one near Oracle Park in San Francisco. According to the announcement, a key part of the card shop experience is the company’s “signature vault,” which shows autographed memorabilia such as helmets, jerseys, bats and balls in a “museum-quality display.”
At the center of the experience is CardVault’s signature vault, showcasing autographed and authenticated memorabilia — from helmets and jerseys to bats and balls — creating a museum-quality display for fans and collectors alike.
“CardVault by Tom Brady began with the simple idea that the right space can turn a personal passion into a shared experience,” said Scott Heigelmann, co-founder of CardVault by Tom Brady. “We wanted something part clubhouse, part gallery, part theater, a place where collectibles, culture and community could find each other.
The store’s grand opening will take place at 10 a.m., with the first 25 visitors receiving a limited-edition Palo Alto-themed CardVault by Tom Brady hat. Guests will also have a chance to win a mini helmet autographed by San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey, according to the announcement.
Heigelmann said he is proud to bring CardVault to Palo Alto, which he said is “home to a community of boundless imagination, where curiosity is an art form and where ideas become innovations that shape the world.”
While Brady is best known for winning Super Bowls in New England and Tampa Bay, he has roots in the Peninsula. Born in San Mateo, he attended Junipera Serra High School, which in 2012 renamed its football stadium after his family. Considered by many to be greatest quarterback of all time, he currently works as a color commentator for NFL on Fox. He also became a partial owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in late 2024.
CardVault by Tom Brady will be open seven days per week and will feature trade nights, special guest appearances and exclusive product launches, according to the announcement.
