A Redwood City man was arrested Wednesday in connection with two cases of burglary and assault, authorities said.

Early Sunday morning, officials said, Redwood City police responded to a call in the 400 block of Jackson Avenue, where 30-year-old Jose Manuel Gonzalez Cruz allegedly entered the home while the residents were asleep and sexually assaulted a woman.

Cruz fled the scene, but was later arrested and also identified as the suspect in a May 10 burglary and sexual assault in the 1700 block of Walnut Street, San Carlos.

Cruz was being held at the Maguire Correctional Facility. On Friday, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Cruz, including assault with intent to commit a sexual offense during the commission of a first-degree burglary, attempted first-degree burglary, peeking or prying while loitering and indecent exposure.

In a statement to the Redwood City Pulse, RCPD Lt. Jeffrey Clements said additional information was not available due to the investigation being ongoing.

“This case involves a significant amount of followup investigation,” he said. “We are absolutely scouring police reports and calls for service to determine if the suspect was involved in additional crimes.
