A 20-year-old Redwood City man was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly stabbing an individual at the Sequoia Station shopping center near the Caltrain.

At 8:11 p.m. Wednesday, Redwood City Police Officers responded to a report by San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies who came across an assault in progress during a routine check of the Caltrain platform.

Deputies said they saw an altercation between the individuals, who disengaged from each other once they noticed law enforcement. The suspect was found to be holding a knife in his hand and detained by authorities.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital with two stab wounds, primarily to the torso and is expected to survive his injuries, authorities said.

According to Redwood City Police Lt. Jeff Clements, the suspect and victim are believed to have known each other. Authorities also believe the incident to be isolated. It is unclear if nearby cameras captured the event on video.

The man was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility for attempted homicide and a parole violation.
