A Redwood City man has been charged with attempted murder after prosecutors said he stabbed someone outside Old Princeton Landing Public House and Grill in Half Moon Bay. It’s not the first time he’s faced an attempted murder charge.
According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Miguel Rodriguez is accused of stabbing a 29-year-old man during a large fight at a bar located at 460 Capistrano Road in the unincorporated Princeton area, shortly after midnight on Oct. 5. The man survived and has since been released from the hospital, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives gathered evidence and released surveillance photos of the suspect and on Nov. 26, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rodriguez. On Dec. 2, at about 7 a.m., deputies located him in the 2500 block of East Bayshore Road in Redwood City and took him into custody without incident.
He was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, in addition to enhancements for causing great bodily harm and using a deadly weapon. Rodriguez has a prior serious or violent felony conviction, according to court records.
He was arraigned later that day and is being held without bond.
This is not Rodriguez’s first attempted murder. In 2007, he pleaded no contest to attempted murder as part of a plea agreement that dropped charges and enhancements related to gang involvement. He was sentenced to 17 years in jail for stabbing a 16-year-old boy in Half Moon Bay, according to news reports at the time.
Rodriguez has a lengthy criminal history in San Mateo County. He has had at least six convictions prior to the 2007 case. The cases include pleas to assault, burglary, possession of a weapon in jail, driving under the influence and presenting false identification to a police officer. In several of the cases, he was charged with enhancements for committing a crime involving a street gang.
