CITY OF REDWOOD CITY
*************************
Who:
- Redwood City Mayor Diane Howard and Redwood City representatives
- Caltrans representatives
What: Ribbon-cutting to commemorate the opening of the U.S. Highway 101 Pedestrian Undercrossing in Redwood City, connecting the bike path along Bair Island Road with the bike lanes on Main Street via a new undercrossing beneath the freeway and adjacent to Redwood Creek. The 14-foot wide path will maintain nine to ten feet of headroom and include landscaping improvements, site lighting, two retaining walls, and a scenic overlook.
When: November 10, 2021 at 2 p.m.
Where: New undercrossing beneath the 101 freeway, adjacent to Courtyard Marriott (600 Bair Island Rd) and Redwood Creek. Marked by the “X” on the map; click for more information.

Why: Over the past decade, housing development in the bayfront areas east of U.S. Highway 101 have attracted many new residents to the City and have created an increased demand for improved pedestrian and bicycle connections in the area. Creating a physical link between the bayfront areas and downtown has been a long term planning goal of the City. Previously, an existing, undeveloped and narrow foot trail crossed under the freeway at this location. With the new 700 feet of pathway, improvements include providing an accessible pathway that connects the Bair Island neighborhood to the Downtown and provides another emergency access route to the Bair Island neighborhood.
