Good morning, Redwood City!

Fighting fire

The first day of summer brought record temperatures and a major brush fire to the Peninsula. A blaze that erupted alongside the Edgewood Park Preserve caused forced evacuations and left thousands of local residents without power. Read their accounts here.

As of this morning, the Edgewood Fire has been reduced to 20 acres and is 20% contained. While evacuation orders have been lifted, firefighters from around the Bay Area are still on the ground working to put out residual flames and prevent further spread. Click through for more details.

Elections update

With only challenged ballots left to count, the latest numbers show Redwood City Mayor Giselle Hale in second place, with a 337-vote lead over Republican Mark Gilham in the race for California State Assembly, D-21.

Though Hale has claimed the victory—tweeting “That's a wrap on the primary!”—Gilham has yet to concede and said “there are still votes to count.” We’ll keep you posted.

Much more to come, so stay tuned.

Your reporter,

Leah
