Good morning, Redwood City!
Fighting violations with violations
Yesterday, a couple dozen Sequoia Trailer Park residents and supporters rallied outside the County Center in opposition to a long list of safety violations issued by the county earlier this year.
After receiving threats of fines for noncompliance, the residents decided to deliver their own Safety Violation: On a large cardboard sign, they accused the county of failing to maintain park health and safety standards and of "endangering the safety and wellbeing of residents" with individual code violations and fines.
However, the county said it has no desire to enforce fines or evictions. ""The primary goal is the health and safety of the residents. We are ratcheting up the enforcement discussion," said Deputy County Executive Justin Mates. "That being said, we don’t actually intend to fine people. That’s not our goal."
More on that here.
