City Council 

The election filing period ends this evening, and, so far, it seems as though city council district 2 is the most crowded of all the races. San Mateo County LGBTQ+ Commissioner Chris Sturken, Redwood City Housing and Human Concerns Committee Chair Margaret M. Becker and Alison Madden, a Redwood City attorney, have filed papers for city council district 2. Meanwhile, Diane Howard and Jerome Madigan are candidates in district 6. Kaiser Strike

Unionized Kaiser mental health clinicians across Northern California are striking beginning on Monday. Although the hospital system has a Kaiser medical facility in Redwood City, the union workers aren't currently planning to picket outside that facility, instead choosing to picket in Sacramento and San Jose, among other places. Heavy workloads, burnout, and understaffing — much of which have been exacerbated by the pandemic– were all reasons that ultimately led to this strike, according to the National Union of Healthcare Workers. In an emailed statement, Deb Catsavas, senior vice president of human resources at Kaiser Permanente, called the strike "sadly, a bargaining tactic this union has used every time it has bargained a new contract with Kaiser Permanente." More here
