A 23-year-old man charged in the November death of a San Carlos couple after an alleged drag race that took place in Redwood City pleaded not guilty on Friday.

Kyle Harrison is one of two people who have been charged in the case. A 17-year-old has also been charged and, according to the district attorney, may be tried as an adult.

According to a criminal complaint filed on Nov. 22, Harrison is alleged to have caused the death of Grace Spiridon and Gregory Ammen on Nov. 4 during a drag race between him and the 17-year-old. Harrison and a 17-year-old male, were allegedly drag racing just before 8 p.m. when the minor’s vehicle collided with a car containing a family of four at the intersection of El Camino Real and Finger Avenue

Harrison is also charged with the injuries of Ammen and Spiridon’s twin daughters and two other children.

At a hearing on Friday, Harrison pleaded not guilty to all six counts: two counts of murder and four counts related to the alleged drag race and the injuries incurred by the other children.

Harrison was denied bail and remains in custody, according to District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe.

Harrison’s attorney Tennille Duffy did not respond to a request for comment.

Editor's Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated whether the juvenile would be tried as an adult. The judge has yet to make a ruling.
