A Redwood City man who works at a math tutoring center at Sequoia Station was arrested on Monday, Nov. 20, after police said he sent text messages to a teen that were “lewd and sexual in nature.”
Pouya Asrar, 37, is accused of arranging to meet with a minor to try to engage in sexual activity after text messaging a 17-year-old co-worker he met at Mathnasium, a Redwood City math tutoring center at the Sequoia Station shopping center, according to Redwood City Police Department press release. Asrar allegedly initiated a conversation with the teen via text message.
Although the teen told Asrar that she was underage, he continued to send her text messages, which eventually became lewd and sexual, the release said.
Detectives were able to get the suspect to come to a location where he believed he would have sexual relations, police said. When police searched him, they found condoms, according to the release.
Asrar is charged with two felonies, communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a sex crime and arranging to meet with a minor to engage in sexual activity, according to the release.
He could face five years in prison on the charges for which he was arrested, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
The district attorney’s office said he will appear in court on Monday, Nov. 27, for an arraignment.
