‘Cabaret’
“Cabaret,” the classic musical set in hedonistic, jazz-loving Berlin during the waning days of the Weimar Republic as the Nazis rise to power, is Los Altos Stage Company’s latest production. The powerful show – sometimes darkly comic, sometimes chilling – follows an American writer who falls in love with English nightclub performer Sally Bowles and “invites you to experience its rich themes of sexual freedom and the perils of political apathy,” the theater company’s website states. Though it takes place nearly a century ago, its themes still resonate.
Through Sept. 28, Wednesday-Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m., 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos; $13-$41; losaltosstage.org.
Pub in the Park
Traditional British pubs often have a dark and cozy atmosphere — and perhaps it goes without saying, they’re usually indoors, too. But in Redwood City, you can grab a pint and catch some live music in a city park, with an inflatable British-style pub serving up the drinks. Redwood City hosts its final Pub in the Park event of the summer on Sept. 6, with beers from local micro breweries, ciders and seltzers on tap, plus bites available for purchase from food trucks. Contemporary bluegrass band Savannah Blu will perform. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and make an afternoon of it.
Sept. 6, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Red Morton Park, 1120 Roosevelt Ave., Redwood City; free admission; redwoodcity.org.

Hops & Props
Hiller Aviation Museum’s Hops & Props beer fest is an outdoor celebration of airplanes, microbrews and live music, featuring a variety of beer from Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company (selections include IPAs, ales, lager and nonalcoholic root beer), a selection of various wines, live music by The Montgomery Coe Band, and food available from Gold Rush Eatery (the museum recommends the fried ravioli). Museum gallery admission is not required to enter the festival but can be purchased separately for those who also want to check out the aeronautic exhibitions within.
Sept. 6, noon to 4 p.m., Hiller Aviation Museum, 601 Skyway Road, San Carlos; free; hiller.org/event/hops-and-props.
Art Hikes and Sound Immersion
The Djerassi Resident Artists Program has long taken the concept of site-specific installations to an intriguing new level, with numerous unique artworks constructed by resident artists over the past 40 years in the forests and meadows of its secluded Woodside property. As time goes on, nature slowly transforms these sculptures. The public can check out these evolving artworks on guided hikes throughout the property. The program’s hike director and volunteers lead groups of up to 20 on a 3.5 mile trek through the 583-acre ranch, stopping by over 40 sculptures. As Djerassi’s fall hike schedule kicks off this weekend, the organization has started hosting a new type of hike that, like the sculptures themselves, work with nature. Three hikes this fall, including the first of the season on Sept. 7, are planned to take place on evenings when there’s a full moon. Visitors to Djerassi looking for relaxation can also avail themselves of meditative sound immersion experiences, in which participants “bathe” in sound waves from instruments such as singing bowls and chimes.
Hikes take place Sept. 7-Nov. 5, primarily on weekends, with two weekday full moon hikes Oct. 6 and Nov. 5. Sound immersion experiences take place Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 12 at Djerassi, 2325 Bear Gulch Road, Woodside; ticket prices vary; djerassi.org/events/upcoming-events.
