A Menlo Park man suspected in a road rage altercation was arrested for alleged weapons and child endangerment crimes, Redwood City police said Thursday.
On Feb. 11, officers in Redwood City responded to a report of road rage involving a firearm in the Costco parking lot on Middlefield Road.
Investigators believe the suspect approached the alleged victim, revealed a gun tucked into his waistband, and made threats.
According to police, surveillance footage corroborated the victim’s account of the event and assisted investigators in identifying the 43-year-old man.
The Redwood City Police Department attempted to contact the suspect on the night of the alleged altercation, but he declined to speak with them.
Officers then obtained a search warrant for the man, his home and his vehicles.
On Wednesday, police caught up with him as he was driving away from his residence with his wife and two children in the car, and a traffic stop was initiated.
The suspect was safely detained and a search of his vehicle allegedly uncovered a concealed, loaded gun.
A search of the suspect’s home in Menlo Park allegedly revealed a bedroom with both adult and child sleeping areas and many toys. Investigators allegedly found a loaded AR-15-style rifle and a loaded handgun on an exposed lower shelf within the room.
Police were concerned that these weapons were readily accessible to the children and not properly and safely secured.
The 43-year-old was booked into the county jail on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and child endangerment. As of Thursday afternoon, he was no longer in custody.
