Redwood City will commemorate Memorial Day with a traditional ceremony at Union Cemetery on Monday, May 26, continuing a local tradition dating back to 1889.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and will feature Cmdr. George Smith of American Legion Post 105 as the keynote speaker, along with remarks from a Gold Star parent. The hourlong program includes patriotic music, a flower-laying tribute to soldiers’ graves, and the ceremonial firing on the anvil.
The Civil War-era cemetery is located at 316 Woodside Rd., just west of El Camino Real. Due to limited parking, attendees are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool. After the ceremony, the public is welcome to explore the historic grounds.
