A new Learn And Play Montessori school officially opened its doors in San Carlos this Wednesday, expanding early education options for local families.

The new campus, located on Laurel Street, is the latest addition to the school’s growing network of Bay Area locations and is the second in San Mateo County.

The school offers preschool, kindergarten, and after-school care programs for children ages 2 to 6.

According to Corrinne Kluge, the program’s communications manager, the San Carlos campus emphasizes hands-on, student-led learning while incorporating science, technology, engineering, and math into the curriculum. The program also includes language and multicultural components.

“Our program prepares children for the future,” Kluge said, noting that the campus provides flexible and affordable scheduling depending on a family’s needs.

San Carlos was chosen as part of the school’s broader expansion strategy.

“It stood out as a vibrant, family-friendly community that aligns with our values,” Kluge said. “The area’s charm, accessibility, and strong sense of community made it an ideal choice.”

The campus is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers part-time and full-time enrollment.

While the organization has no specific expansion plans to announce, Kluge said the organization is “always exploring opportunities to grow and serve more families” in the Bay Area.

Applications for the first funding round closed in October 2024, with a second round expected later in 2025.
