The San Mateo County History Museum will open a new exhibit to the public Friday, June 26, honoring Tom Martinez, the longtime College of San Mateo coach who mentored generations of athletes, including Tom Brady.

The Tom Martinez Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame Exhibit will be previewed during the Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony Thursday, June 25, before opening to the public the next day at the museum, 2200 Broadway in Redwood City.

The exhibit includes memorabilia from Martinez, Brady and the CSM Bulldogs, along with a renovated Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame display and a digital kiosk where visitors can learn more about Martinez and search the hall of fame.

Martinez coached at CSM for 31 years and never had a losing season, according to the museum. He began working with Brady when the future NFL quarterback was 13, starting a 25-year mentorship.

The exhibit is part of the museum’s $25 million capital improvements program, with additional projects expected to debut Nov. 7.
