Local residents who died recently include:

Kalani Engles, 87, of Portola Valley, who was an artist whose career spanned 45 years and was featured in more than 120 exhibitions and represented by 15 galleries across the Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Denver, died on July 14, 2026.

Beverly Jane (Stout) Balanis, 95, of Menlo Park, who was an award-winning watercolor artist whose work was selected for dozens of individual and group exhibitions throughout the Peninsula and who volunteered as a docent at Stanford University’s Cantor Art Center, and who collected Native American art from the Southwest, died on Aug. 4, 2026.
