Music@Menlo
Stars shine brightly on their own as it is, but they make something pretty magical when we imagine them brought together in the sky as constellations. Summer chamber music festival Music@Menlo gets underway this weekend, kicking off a three-week program celebrating the unique power of the chamber ensemble with the theme “Constellations: Ensemble Magic.” Central to the schedule is series of concerts that explore the dynamics of the instrumental ensemble, from duos and trios all the way to quintets, groups with vocalists and beyond.
The 23rd annual festival runs July 18-Aug. 9 at Menlo School in Atherton and features top musical talents, as well as up-and-coming young musicians who receive an intensive training over the summer at Music@Menlo’s Chamber Music Institute. As usual, audiences will have a chance to learn more about the music with a series of talks, catch performances by emerging talents through the festival’s “Prelude” concert series and see the youngest artists take the stage in their own concert series. There’s also the chance to sit in on master classes and open coachings to watch the next generations of musicians learning their art.
This year’s festival will mark the penultimate festival with co-founders David Finckel and Wu Han at the helm, with cellist Dmitri Atapine and pianist Hyeyeon Park set to succeed them as co-artistic directors in 2027.

July 18-Aug. 9 at Menlo School, 50 Valparaiso Ave., Atherton; For ticket availability and more information, visit musicatmenlo.org.

The event will showcase their work, and also includes a guided sculpture hike, artist presentations, and a complimentary lunch by the Djerassi Program’s gourmet chef.
