A one-block stretch of Spring Street between Main and Walnut streets was scheduled to close overnight Monday as the 1900 Broadway redevelopment moves forward, according to Redwood City officials.
Drivers and pedestrians must now use alternate routes around the block. The closure removes Spring Street from the five-legged intersection at Main and Marshall streets, converting it into a standard four-legged intersection that the city said will improve downtown circulation.
The City Council approved the 1900 Broadway project and the proposed Spring Street vacation in October 2024. In July, the council finalized the street vacation and approved selling the approximately 21,100-square-foot segment and a neighboring parklet to developer Lane Partners for $10.75 million.
The seven-story project will replace the former Wells Fargo building with approximately 238,300 square feet of offices, 10,060 square feet of retail space, a community room and a 12,085-square-foot publicly accessible plaza.
