Redwood City police are searching for a girl believed to be 4 or 5 years old who a witness reported seeing bleeding from her head following a single-vehicle rollover on northbound Highway 101 north of Woodside Road late Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which police said occurred around 10:38 p.m. Sept. 20. Redwood City officers responded to assist with the search but had not found the girl when the follow-up alert was issued.
A witness described the girl as having blond or brown hair and wearing a pink jacket, according to police.
Police said a person described in the alert as a “suspect” fled on foot. The department did not say whether that person was driving, what crime was suspected or how the person was connected to the child. It is also unclear whether the girl was inside the vehicle or whether anyone else was involved in the crash.
An initial police alert described the missing child as a 4-year-old boy. The follow-up alert described the child as a 4- to 5-year-old girl. Police did not explain the discrepancy.
Police asked anyone who sees a child matching the updated description to call 911, the Redwood City Police Department or CHP.
