An exciting theatrical event is about to unfold in Redwood City as the Roy Cloud Elementary School Parent & Teacher Organization and the San Carlos Children’s Theater present “Matilda the Musical, Jr.” at the McKinley Auditorium.

This family-friendly adaptation of the beloved Roald Dahl story is set to captivate audiences.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 22, at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at 7 p.m., and a matinee on Sunday, March 24, at 1 p.m.

“Matilda the Musical, Jr.” is a dynamic, shortened version of the Tony-winning Broadway musical tailored for younger audiences. It tells the tale of a bright and precocious girl who uses her wit, intelligence, and telekinetic powers to overcome challenges at home and school, including a tyrannical headmistress. With its vibrant characters and catchy songs, the musical is a celebration of the power of imagination and resilience.

“The children are rising up! Join the revolt in a Roy Cloud PTO and San Carlos Children’s Theater production of Matilda JR.,” playfully announced the ticketing website for the musical.

With a total of 32 students from 4th to 8th grade playing the main cast roles and 24 younger students from kindergarten through 3rd grade forming the chorus, the production showcases the depth of talent among the students at Roy Cloud, said parent Anthony Loew.

The production stars Maya Surdutovich as Matilda, a young girl with extraordinary intelligence and special powers. Abigail Bartfield takes on the role of the formidable Ms. Trunchbull, with Kenzie Cochran as the kind-hearted Ms. Honey. The Wormwood family brings additional flair to the stage with Andrina Delis as Mr. Wormwood and Audrey Hockaday as Mrs. Wormwood.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here, and 100% of the ticket cost goes to supporting the theatre arts program funded by the Roy Cloud PTO, Loew said.
