The Redwood City Pulse received four awards, including two second-place awards for enterprise news story or series and news photo, and two third-place awards for food writing and best podcast, at the annual California Journalism Awards contest on Saturday evening.

Organized by the California News Publishers Association, the contest draws thousands of entries from throughout the state and covered work produced in 2024. The work is judged by journalists from other states. The awards were announced at a May 17 ceremony in Los Angeles.

The Pulse competed against other weekly newspapers and digital publications in its circulation category.

Part of Embarcadero Media Foundation, the Redwood City Pulse launched in 2021 as a digital-only news publication. This is the second year in a row that the publication has won awards at the statewide contest in its short time as a news outlet. The publication also produces Express, a daily email news digest and Weekend Express, a weekly newsletter of local arts and entertainment.
