With just days away from Election Day, Marcella Padilla brought in $26,460 for her Redwood City Council District 7 campaign, markedly surpassing her opponent Diana Reddy’s $8,312 contributions this calendar year.
In her latest campaign filings, Padilla listed her contributors as Redwood City, Emerald Hills, San Carlos, Daly City, Atherton and East Palo Alto residents. She also received a $100 contribution from East Palo Alto Mayor and San Mateo County Board District 4 Supervisor candidate Antonio Lopez. Redwood City Council member Alicia Aguirre contributed twice to her campaign for a total of $600.
Other contributions include $250 from Stanford physicist Alan Fisher, $1,000 from Albert Engel, a property manager at California Properties Inc. and $500 from Giselle Hale, the former mayor of Redwood City.
In addition, Padilla received $200 from Margaret Buitrago, a San Mateo County attorney, $250 from Ron Gonzales, an executive at the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and $1000 from Martin Green, an investor at Cambrian Asset Management.
Padilla also invested in her campaign by issuing herself a $11,000 loan.
According to the city, candidates cannot accept contributions over $1,000 from any one source. This limit does not apply to personal funds.
Reddy, on the other hand, brought in over $5,000 from retired individuals and over $400 from self-employed writers. Other contributions include $150 from San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa and $250 from Joshua Hugg, who works in Govt. Affairs—MROS Dist., and $250 from a Stanford University advisor.
Padilla’s campaign expenditures over the calendar year totaled $12,568, which included door hanger signs, campaign posters, mailers, business cards, yard signs and political data.
Reddy reported $10,112 in campaign spending, covering mailers, handouts, thank you cards, remit envelopes and website renewal.
