PRESS RELEASE
BAY CITIES FOOTBALL CLUB
*************************
Bay Cities FC hosted its first ever professional tryouts this past weekend, November 13-14th, in Redwood City. There was a great local turnout with talented players coming from near and far. On behalf of the club, we would love to thank every player who participated in the tryouts.
“Overall a good weekend, I think it is encouraging to see the interest and more importantly the interest from players in the Bay Area. That’s been the most exciting part for me to think about building a club of players that can play in their hometown,” said Eric Bucchere, Sporting Director at Bay Cities FC.
Bay Cities FC mission is a Community First men’s and women’s professional soccer club that will leverage the passion for soccer to accelerate development by building bridges and providing growth opportunities on the pitch, in the front office, and in the community. It was evident that this message was being heard due to the local talent that came out to tryouts. Tryouts player Edson Cardona from San Jose was asked about tryouts and what his thoughts were about a new team starting here in Redwood City. Cardona replied, “Tryouts were great with good competition. I am happy to be out here. It is definitely time for a new team in the Bay Area to give more opportunities to local players who have the talent.”
One of those pathways that Bay Cities FC is paving is for youth talent to always envision themselves playing at the next level. Players as young as 16 years old wanted to prove they had what it takes this past weekend to play at the professional level. When asked about the opportunity to showcase their talent among older players at this tryouts, these younger players made it evident they were confident in their abilities regardless of age and just were excited yet hungry for the opportunities to come.
Tryouts for Bay Cities FC also drew in players from all around the world. We saw players compete this weekend from places like Canada and as far away as Kenya, Africa. Delvin Mwende is the player who’s roots stem from Kenya. When asked what about Bay Cities FC drove him to come tryout, Mwende replied, “I love the Bay Area, I just recently moved here and have loved everything that comes with living here. So a travel team that wants to represent the people of their community is a great initiative to bring the communities of the Bay Area together through football.”
Players from Monterey, CA come up North to participate this weekend. Pedro Hernandez and Adrian Ortiz are recent graduates of the Men’s Soccer team at Cal State Monterey Bay. When asked how they heard about the tryouts, they credited the reference to their teammate at Monterey Bay, Miguel Guerrero-Medina. Guerrero-Medina was part of the first ever Bay Cities FC Summer 2021 team. Hernandez and Ortiz both stated that Guerrero-Medina spoke highly of his hometown and the club and were excited for the opportunity.
Redwood City draws in its own talent. This city is home to a soccer craze community and it was evident this weekend with the local talent. Goalkeeper Alan Cruz has always called Redwood City home. Cruz was also another player who played for the first ever Bay Cities FC Summer team. “Honestly this opportunity could be a dream come true for me, being able to represent my hometown and play on the same fields I grew up playing youth soccer on… that would be it for me,” said Cruz.
Bay Cities FC would also love to thank the coaches that came out to be part of this new journey in Redwood City. Former Head Coach for the Bay Cities FC Summer 2021 Team Eddie Hernandez said, “The talent that is out here tonight is very exciting to see, there are players from around the world and also right here in Redwood City and it great to see this all come together tonight.” Soccer legends like Steve Ralston and Dom Kinnear were also out at tryouts looking to discover the next generation of talent here in Redwood City.
Bay Cities FC is looking forward to the near future as we continue to build a professional club for Redwood City and the Peninsula to call home.
