In anticipation of the San Francisco 49ers’ Conference Championship game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Redwood City residents Leslie and Russ Muzzolini are hosting a spirited pep rally at Red Morton Park complete with a choreographed light show.
The rally will take place from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27. Russ Muzzolini is a software engineer who lives across the street from the park. He has designed light shows with his decorations over the past few Christmases. Eventually, he outgrew his space and turned to the city for permission to decorate the Valota side of Red Morton Park with lights and a light tunnel along the pathway.
“It makes people smile and brings them joy, and when people might struggle around the holidays, it’s a positive experience. And we love our community here and love to do it,” Leslie Muzzolini said.
In recent years, the holiday cheer has spilled into late January with pep rallies at Red Morton Park, celebrating the 49ers’ playoff runs and attracting 100 attendees.
Leslie Muzzolini said she is particularly excited about this year’s light show, which will include lasers, screens, and thousands of lights that are all choreographed to upbeat music and some of the music related to the 49er’s recent anthems.
She said anybody looking to celebrate and be around other fans is welcome to come dressed in their 49ers gear.
“It’s a free event and a fun way to celebrate and be with the community,” Leslie Muzzolini said.
While she said that her Christian McCaffrey jersey is still on backorder, she said she would be there in all red on Saturday.
Red Morton Park is located at 1120 Roosevelt Ave. behind the Red Morton Community Center.
