Redwood City residents earning less than $64,000 are invited to a free tax preparation event at the Fair Oaks Community Center at 600 Middlefield Rd.

The event, which will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, is a collaboration between Golden State Opportunity (GSO), Assemblymember Diane Papan, and Tax Aid.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary tacos while Tax Aid’s volunteer professionals assist with preparing and filing taxes at no cost. More than 40 locals have already registered for the service, which requires participants to bring copies of their tax documents for preparation.

In a news release, Papan emphasized the importance of accurate tax filing, noting the potential for refunds and credits to significantly benefit working families. The event also aims to raise awareness about cash-back tax credits such as the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), the Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC), and the Foster Youth Tax Credit (FYTC), which support low-income workers and contribute to the state’s anti-poverty efforts.

No pre-registration is required, according to Papan’s chief of staff.
