The Redwood City Council is set to hold public hearings on two development proposals that could greatly impact housing availability and downtown growth. The meeting is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m.
The first agenda item concerns a proposed 72-unit affordable housing development at 847 Woodside Road. The project, featuring 71 affordable units plus one manager’s unit, aims to address the city’s need for more affordable housing options.
The council will consider resolutions to confirm that the environmental review for the project has been completed in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act. The council will review various permits and agreements, including an Architectural Permit, a Density Bonus, an Affordable Housing Plan, and a Land Donation Agreement to support affordable housing. According to the meeting agenda, this project aligns with Redwood City’s General Plan, a vision document that guides the growth and development of Redwood City through 2030.
The second agenda item focuses on a large-scale mixed-use project, known as the “Gatekeeper Project,” which is set to be built at 1900 Broadway. This development includes 238,300 square feet of office space, 10,060 square feet of retail space, a 1,000-square-foot community room, and a 715-square-foot storage area, along with a 12,085-square-foot publicly accessible plaza.
Key considerations for the council include finalizing the environmental review, adopting amendments to the General Plan’s Mixed Use-Downtown designation and the Downtown Precise Plan and approving various project permits. The council will also introduce an ordinance for a development agreement with the project developer, Lane Partners.
The City is encouraging community members to attend the hearings and share their perspectives on these proposals.
Public comments can be sent by emailing publiccomment@redwoodcity.org by 5 p.m. on Monday, including the agenda item number in the subject line.
