Redwood City police arrested a resident on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a family member and barricading himself in a home.
Officers responded to reports about a family disturbance at around 8:45 p.m. on July 18 on the 1000 block of Madison Avenue, according to a police press release on Monday, July 20. The officers met with a 21-year-old victim who had injuries consistent with strangulation.Â
Police said the suspect barricaded himself in the house and refused to cooperate with officers, prompting them to get an arrest warrant and call in the department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit.
After several hours of attempted negotiations, the man surrendered, according to the press release
The 37-year-old suspect was booked into San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony assault and resisting or delaying officers. He was also served with a previously unserved restraining order and another emergency protective order on behalf of the victim.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Monday morning that police haven’t filed the case with his office yet so he could not confirm the charges against the suspect. The man is scheduled to be arraigned in San Mateo County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. on July 21.Â
