The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) Community Space has expanded its eligibility requirements, allowing nonprofit organizations from across the Bay Area to host events if they support San Mateo County residents. Previously, access to the space was limited to nonprofits headquartered within the county.
As of Feb. 1, nonprofits based in Alameda, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties can use the Community Space for meetings, events, and convenings at no cost, provided they serve communities in San Mateo County. Redwood City and San Mateo County government departments are also eligible.
Priority will be given to events that directly support residents of San Mateo County, though exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for organizations outside the Bay Area.
CZI hosted an open house on Jan. 30 to introduce the expanded access and allow organizations to explore the space and network.
In 2024, the Community Space hosted over 250 events and nearly 7,000 guests. Recent gatherings have included a Holiday Night Market featuring local businesses, cultural performances honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and a film screening on California’s housing crisis.
