The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on Thursday announced the newest recipients of its Community Fund, awarding two-year grants of up to $200,000 to 37 local nonprofits working in housing, healthcare, education, job training and other social services. Now in its ninth year, the fund has invested more than $34 million in over 200 organizations since 2017.
This year’s grantees include groups such as LifeMoves, which provides shelter and supportive services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness; JobTrain, which offers career training and job placement in high-demand fields; and AbilityPath, which supports children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area pairs young people with adult mentors, giving them a consistent source of support to help build confidence and improve academically.
Kara, a grief support organization, offers peer counseling, support groups and crisis response services for children, teens and adults coping with loss.
Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA) provides safety, advocacy and legal services for survivors of domestic violence.
Fresh Approach connects families to healthy food by running farmers’ markets, nutrition education and community gardening programs across the county.
