Alan Douglass Fitch, 98, a long-time resident of Palo Alto and Woodside who won two national championships as a member of the University of Michigan football team in 1947 and 1948, who served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, and who owned and showed champion St. Bernard dogs, died on May 24.
Robert Leon, 97, of Palo Alto, who earned his master’s degree in education from UC Berkeley, who served in the U.S. Army, who taught English at Cubberley High School, who was later vice principal at Terman Middle School, Wilbur Junior High School and Palo Alto High School, who helped his wife run The Paper Chase in Menlo Park during his retirement, and who played doubles tennis for over half a century, died on April 8.
Lawrence Wreden Liston, 90, who was born and raised in Palo Alto, who graduated from Palo Alto High School, who married his high school sweetheart Joanna Morrison, who lived in Los Altos and later Palo Alto, who worked in retail and corporate finance, who resided at Channing House since 2013, who spent two decades chairing the board of Alta Mesa Memorial Park, and who was part of Palo Alto Rotary, died on May 16.
Dorothy “Dot” Margaret Mary Lloyd, 90, of Woodside, who founded a travel agency that became Woodside Travel, who was a lifelong golfer, and who was an elite bridge player, died on May 11.
Elinor “Lolly” Osborne, 85, of Palo Alto, who graduated from Palo Alto High School, who volunteered with her children’s PTA and coached soccer, who was active in the Palo Alto Women’s Club and who could sew a quilt, build a fence and tile a bathroom from scratch, died on March 6.
Clare Frischmuth Smith, 81, of Palo Alto, who traveled extensively and was a member of Neighbors Abroad, who ushered for multiple local theater companies, and who taught ceramics and collage at senior communities, died on May 17.
