Redwood City will commemorate Memorial Day with a ceremony at Union Cemetery on Monday, May 25.
The free event begins at 10 a.m. and will feature a bagpiper, Sequoia High School singers, special speakers and a reading of the poem “The Young Soldiers Do Not Speak,” according to Kathy Klebe, president of the Historic Union Cemetery Association.
James Howard, a veteran outreach specialist with the Peninsula Vet Center in Menlo Park, will serve as the keynote speaker. Nine Peninsula city historic societies will also be represented and will share information about their activities and historic sites.
The program will also include the traditional anvil firing.

Union Cemetery is located at 330 Woodside Rd., just west of El Camino Real. Parking is limited, and organizers are strongly encouraging attendees to walk, bike or carpool.
