A planned bicycle improvement project on Maple Street in Redwood City is among 11 projects receiving a share of $8.1 million approved by the San Mateo County Transportation Authority for safety and connectivity improvements along the U.S. Highway 101 corridor.
The funding includes $4.1 million in new Measure A interest income for the 101 Corridor Connect Kickstart Mini-Grant Program, in addition to $4 million previously approved.
The grants will support early planning, community outreach, and design work, helping local agencies prepare projects for future regional, state and federal funding.
Projects include complete streets and bicycle improvements for Old County Road Complete Streets in Belmont, Active 101 East Bayshore Road Project in East Palo Alto, Millbrae Avenue Bikeway Improvements in Millbrae, Maple Street Bicycle Improvements in Redwood City, SFO Bay Trail Gap Closure in San Bruno, Old County Road Complete Streets in San Carlos, and Oyster Point/Gateway Boulevard Improvements in South San Francisco.
Other projects will study improvements near U.S. 101 in San Mateo, Foster City, Atherton, and Menlo Park.
The 101 Corridor Connect program focuses on improving transportation beyond the freeway, including safer travel, stronger connections between communities, and more sustainable transportation options, county officials said.
