The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District has tapped a familiar face to serve as interim superintendent.
During its regular meeting Thursday, June 18, the district board unanimously approved appointing Craig Goldman to fill the top leadership post until a permanent superintendent is found.

Goldman – who served as the district’s chief business official from 2015 to 2020 – returns mid-July for his new role and will earn $1,200 per workday for up to a maximum contracted salary of $59,550, board President David Koss said in a video recording of the meeting.
“During his time in the district, he was a valued member of the leadership team and developed a deep understanding of our schools, staff and community,” Koss said.
“I’m honored that the board has chosen me to support the BRSSD community while the board searches for the district’s next superintendent,” Goldman said in an email to the Pulse late Friday, June 19. “My five years as the district’s chief business official was a highlight of my career, and I look forward working again with an amazing group of trustees, administrators, teachers and staff, if only for a few months.”
Goldman’s key objective “is to be a strong steward for the district until a permanent superintendent is in place,” he said. “That means making sure that staff, students and community members have the information, support and resources they need to have a successful start to the 2026-27 school year. This is a great district, and I want to ensure that its highly functional systems continue to operate seamlessly.”
Before his stint with the district as chief business official, Goldman served as the Mountain View Whisman School District superintendent for four years.
Goldman, over the years, has also “continued to support school districts throughout the Bay Area in a variety of interim leadership roles, helping organizations navigate leadership transitions and maintain continuity of operations,” Koss said.
“The board is confident that Craig’s knowledge of BRSSD combined with his extensive educational leadership experience will provide stability and continuity while the district completes its superintendent search,” Koss added.
That search process includes a survey on what the community is looking for in the person who would take the district’s reins, focus group meetings and candidate interviews.
“With the superintendent search well under way, community input remains an important part of that process,” Koss said in a districtwide message Friday. “This valuable feedback is helping shape the leadership profile and search criteria for BRSSD’s next superintendent.”
A district timeline shows that a new superintendent could be named by late September.
Belmont-Redwood Shores is looking for its next long-term head after current Superintendent Dan Deguara announced in May that he is leaving when the school year wraps up this month.
After helming Belmont-Redwood Shores for six years, Deguara is taking the same leadership position at Los Gatos Union School District, beginning July 1.
Deguara, who lives in San Jose, cited wanting to be closer to home and to spend more time with family as factors behind his decision to switch districts.
