Mazra, the Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Redwood City, officially reopened last week following a two-month closure caused by a kitchen fire.

“We’ve kept all the favorites that Mazra is known for but added a few surprises,” said co-founder Saif Makableh. “Our goal has always been to provide a place where people feel at home while enjoying exceptional food, and now, more than ever, we’re ready to do just that.”

The restaurant, located at 2021 Broadway, experienced a two-alarm fire on June 18 that gutted its kitchen. But no one was injured.

Co-owner Saif Makableh shared that the fire was caused by charcoal from their indoor grill leaking into a combustible area. The team has since taken steps to prevent future incidents. During the closure, the restaurant repaired the damages.

“We’ve officially reopened today and are back in business,” said Natalie Yousef, a representative from Mazra, in an email to this news organization.

She also shared that the interior has been fully remodeled, blending modern design elements with the restaurant’s traditional Mediterranean roots. The menu has also expanded, featuring new seasonal dishes, including locally-sourced ingredients and authentic Mediterranean flavors.

Mazra was founded by brothers Jordan Makableh and Saif Makableh, who wanted to turn their father’s struggling grocery store in San Bruno into a restaurant. It opened in Redwood City in April and quickly became a local favorite for its signature charcoal-grilled dishes.

Now, the restaurant is eager to welcome customers back and continue serving the community.
