A man was arrested on Saturday after police said he may have intentionally set a fire at the Marymount Towers apartment complex in Redwood City early Saturday.
The fire drew a large emergency response and is under investigation for arson, police said.
The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. at 1321 Marshall St., prompting multiple fire engines and police units to respond. By mid-morning, crews had cleared, with one fire investigator remaining to finish documentation.
According to the Redwood City Police Department, three apartment units sustained fire and water damage but no immediate injuries were reported. All residents were safely evacuated from the building.
On Saturday evening, the police department identified a Redwood City resident as a suspect. The individual has been booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility for arson and reckless burning.

Late Saturday morning, activity appeared to have been concentrated in the complex’s rear parking area, near the garage stalls and dumpster enclosure. One parking space in that lot was being cleaned out, and a distinct odor consistent with burned rubber or gasoline lingered. No visible scorch marks or structural damage were apparent from outside the parking area, and no smoke was observed at the time.
Anthony Zuffinetti at nearby Redwood General Tire said multiple engines and police vehicles were lined up along Marshall Street when he arrived to open for the day, with some emergency vehicles extending into his parking lot. He did not observe flames or smoke. A second witness at a nearby business also said they did not see any active fire or smoke.
A property representative declined to comment and asked this reporter to leave the lot, citing an active investigation.
Local law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100.
